Start with shrimp 'n' grits, tofupopcorn, or a choose-your-own tasting plate, then wash down a sandwich with one of the tasty local brewson tap at the nation's first-ever cooperatively run brewpub.
The pub food at this co-op brewpub is well above what it needs to be to accompany their increasingly tasty beer selection. & no tips allowed; they suggest you buy more beer. [Eater 38 Member]
World's 1st cooperatively owned brewpub--Join up and you can be a pub owner too. Tasty beer brewed on premise plus a fine craft selection, fresh locavore menu, nice patio, @ Crestview Metrorail stop
I love the Vulcanbeer, and their cheese plate is really good (albeit expensive). It's right next to the train station so it's fun to do Black Star as a happy hour if you work near another station.
The fries with bacon added are a must get. Their house beers are great, well above what I was expecting. Just make sure you know that you bus your own tables, and they don't take tips.
I’ll forever say this.. The Chicken Tikka Masala at Black Star Co-op is the best in town. Take it from an Indian dude. It’s hands down the best. Oh, the beers are great too!!
The folks who bring kids are the yuppies who live in the condos & it's not illegal to bring them. & it's not like it's 6th St! It's a restaurant/brewpub! There were super cute babies in here tonight!
All those tips abt the chicken sandwich? They're there for a reason. Best chicken sandwich ever! Nice selection of beer to try, friendly staff, patio seating. Do it.
SAVE THE BACON TOFFEE!! This is the very last serving they have and will no longer be carrying it. Please request it every time you go in so they start selling it again!
Are you looking for incredibly tasty beer and food, plus outdoor seating, and a family friendly environment? This is it. Don't tip, this is a co-op and everyone makes a living wage.
The fries are delicious! They are more than willing to let you sample beers and there is no tipping allowed which makes the prices really reasonable. And right next to the metro rail.
Bartenders are friendly so long as you wait behind the line before ordering. They'll also patiently provide you with samples of each of the beers on tap.
If you have a gluten sensitivity, ask for no aioli with the barsteak. The meal is advertised as gluten-free, but the malt vinegaraioli on the side is NOT gluten-free.
