It is a Medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge, noted for still having shops built along it. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers and art dealers.
It is the focal point of the origin and of the history of the Florentine Republic and still maintains the political hub of the city. Located near Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Duomo and gateway to Uffizi.
