Security is super anal depending on who you get. Make sure all gels and liquids are in FAA approved baggies in your carry on luggage

Those mobile homes on wheels that are driving around the airport are known as plane mates or mobile lounges. To me, they're known as a pain in the ass.

Nothing takes the edge off an early morning flight like the walk of shame breakfast burrito at DC-3 (B gates)
By far the least efficient and worst airport in the National Capital Region. Use BWI or Reagan if feasible. Otherwise, plan on long security lines at any time of day on any day of the week.

Heads up.. IAD to JFK and back is $49 during the week on JetBlue. I'll be here a lot more often.

Chdhurry4월 29, 2014Only try to purchase duty free stuff from the terminal you're departing from. Also - five guys at terminal B and there are smoking lounges after security.
Take the Washington Flyer shuttle ($5) to the Silver line metro (~$6) to get downtown.

This airport is huge so budget extra time. The upside is that you can go almost anywhere in the world from this hub.

Terminal D still uses the Star Wars moonwalkers. As novel as they once were, making a flight at D is more difficult because of the moonwalkers.
Almost forgot about the shuttles from the check in area to terminals. Add 15 minutes so you don't miss your flight!
Frankly, the old people movers are faster to C gates than the new train. Take it if you can.
needs a priority lane for passengers with connecting flights when entering here from an international flight to make a connection within a couple of hours

Eva 🐾 Banova10월 9, 2014Not impressed with the airport. Very few shops stay open 24hours so if you have an overnight flight, you're screwed. There are charging stations which is a plus, but definitively not enough.
Security lines ramp up between 1:30 and 2 on weekdays and they take forever during that process! Go extra early for flights between 2 & 3!
They have these big giant metal things with wings that fly!! Like magic.

Behind the gates there are huge planes that take you to many places around the world, don't miss them!
Dulles is located at 1 Saarinen Circle, named for it's architect, Eero Saarinen. If you stop by DAG you'll see several pieces designed or inspired by Saarinen like our "Conversation Pit."

Jennifer Haack10월 11, 2014The silver line bus to Whiele-Reston East Station leaves just outside door 4. Takes about 15 min and costs $5.
Don't buy from the newsstand (apparently named "newsstand") by baggage claim #4. Mixed nuts, jerky, and a water for over $15. Gfy.
Leave lots and lots of time to clear security. It's very slow. The train doesn't go to the D terminal and doesn't really go to C either, it goes a couple hundred yards past and you have to walk back.
Briana Bailey7월 11, 2019No a/c, super hot and it took forever to get to the far D gates. The train dropped me at the beginning of the C gates and so you have to walk all of the C and D gates with no moving walkways

Home away from home. Use Gate Guru app to find shops, restaurants near your gate.
Give yourself a lot of extra time. First it can take forever to get to the airport. Then a lot of time to get to your gate. Everything is spread out.
