Welcome to the great state of MISSOURI. Looking for Kansas? It's a few miles west of here. Fun fact: The then territory of Kansas got its name from Kansas City, Missouri.
If you are flying Southwest and need sustenance, hit the Pork & PickleBBQ joint upstairs near gate 41 after security. Tasty pulled pork sliders, decent beer menu and by far the best food at KCI.
A true throwback airport to a different era. Not a lot of food options once you clear TSA so eat before. Rental bus 🚌 shuttles are always overcrowded too.
Get in, get out that's the theme here. Wouldn't recommend long layovers, since there's minimal food options. Free wifi and boulevard 80 acre or pale ale if you're stuck at the bar :)
Shockingly bad airport for a city this size. Such a shame to see. Security is at each gate, so no need to get here more than 45 mins early if you’re not checking a bag/checked in online.
When checking in at gate, if there are two rows...stay in the lane that is not next to the preferred check in line. That line moves slower because they are checking in two lines.
Try out the new Pork & Pickles. You'll forget you're in an airport, but thankfully there is a monitor to give you updates on your flight. Enjoy some BBQ & beer.
Pork sliders are worth the surly service at Pork and Pickle. Don't be deceived by the name or dozens of jars of pickles... They only have bread and butters. Still delicious. Just hoping for more.
Flights out are often delayed... silver lining is that there are Starbucks on each end, gate 32 and 40 in terminal b. Check out pork and pickle as well
The design of this place w/ security batches by groups of gates makes me want to research its history. I would hate to be regularly passing through these “stuck in crowded gate groups” experiences.
I love Kansas City, but this airport is horrendous. It looks like a concrete cave, only a vendor cart for food after TSA, and absolutely nowhere to charge a phone or laptop.
Dump your water bottle just before going thru security so the TSA doesn't confiscated it, (empty is fine) then refill it at the fountains in the gate area. Traveling with a water bottle is a must!
Not true about not having any places to eat after security.. There's plenty to eat so come on through, then grab something to eat and sit back an relax until your flight boards!
Free wifi and friendly employees. Excellent when arriving; get off the plane, walk through the door and you're on the sidewalk. Not good when departing; 2 toilets beyond security and little else.
Use to be fun because of short distance to gates, now there's very few places to get food or relax waiting for flight. If you can find something eating it on your lap is generally the only option.
Economy parking is good, you get a shuttle bus every 15 minutes, unless you are flying during graveyard 11pm - 4am you have to call them to pick you up at one of the booths.
Incredibly hectic airport. If you just need to print your boarding pass from southwest go to the machine at the very end of the hall, there won't be a crazy long line
The consolidation of carriers at C terminal, require more time to clear TSA. No priority lanes They do offer expedited screening to travelers with TSA pre check shoes belts on laptop liquids out
Small terminals and compacted TSA lines. Other than that the airport is barely functional for the modern traveler. Don't expect to be able to eat after going through TSA.
Small-ish. If you need to get from one terminal to another take the shuttle bus. Security is fast and there isn't much to do or eat at the gates so hang out before security for as long as you can.
If you get a late flight in and a early morning flight out be prepared. You have to claim your luggage and recheck itThere are no TVs while you wait!, no vending machine to get a drink or snack.
KCI now has a Starbucks AND a BBQ restaurant INSIDE security at Southwest!! Great news! Don't have to down your latte in three seconds before early flights!!
Secirity line for Delta is never more than 5 minutes, and as soon as you are through security, you are at you gate! Love it! Great time saver. Will be sad when the new "modern" airport is built.
It is lacking in amenities when you get past security. So what? Get a sandwich before you go to gate. Fastest curb-to-security-to-gate of any airport I've been through. It rocks!
Frontier charges $25 for carry-ons; you'll have to go back thru security. Plane will leave if you don't make it back thru. They also size all personal items & carry-ons. Bag too long? Another $25.
Free Wi-Fi (as it should be). It's nice to have something to keep myself occupied while waiting for others flights to get in. Strange that you have to go back through security if you're laying over.
