Best place to have a proper dinner in Newbury. Atmosphere is very nice and we had a lovely dinner with my colleagues. Tastes are above average but prices are a bit high in Newbury conditions.
Taste is good, portions are very big. Price/benefit ratio is quite high. Heaven for a meat lover like me! Bigger space and different decoration would make it classy!
Last week of July or first week of August are the best weeks to visit. Lovely atmosphere. A small Cafee inside, make further plans for the rest of the day.
If you want a relaxation holiday, private beach in the hotel is a big gift. Recommend swimming early in the morning.

Wood and books makes you feel like a fairy tale. But very touristic, does not let you feel the real athmosphere. You can claim back entrance fee if you buy a book.
