I would recommend checking this place out they also offer a discount if you have a student ID- Come here during the cherry blossom season (April) or the rose-blooming season (May-June) -- Beautiful! Check out their website before you olan your trip to see how much is blooming.

During the winter, weekdays are free to enter. Some of the exhibits may be closed because of the snow.

Sakura festival is a good chance to see crowds and casual cosplay. Esplanade's only place in BBG where lawn-sitting is allowed. The Sakura Matsuri festival every May is good fun, but if you want to avoid crowds and see the trees in bloom, come a week or two earlier.
