Mari: This hotel, while slightly dated, has impeccable service. The private balcony onsens are amazing. The food was delicious and more elevated than your normal kaiseki. Pricey, but worth it.
Mari: Great place to stay on your Kumano Kodo journey. Lobby plays great music. Sit by the fire after an onsen bath. Kiri no sato means fog village, so enjoy the foggy views!
Mari: Well kept boarding house on the Kumano Kodo trail. Amazing home cooked meals and a beautiful bath house next door. All eastern style rooms. Roll out your own futon!
Mari: This is a pretty decent option if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay near the lake. Clean single rooms and a hip vibe. Have easy access to Oishi Park for those Fujisan sunrise shots.
Mari: This hotel has a bit of an identity crisis. An aging hotel that had a face lift. Regardless it’s perfectly located to the train station if you’ll be in and out of Kumamoto.
Mari: While not as upscale as the Centric next door, the Hyatt House is clean, modern and great for an extended stay. Get a studio suite for a full kitchen.
Mari: Ski in and ski out, on-site rental shop, restaurant and onsen make this a great option. Rooms lack some Japanese amenities like bidet toilets and cleanings are minimal.
Mari: Great hotel in the middle of the action. Has an Ace Hotel meets Art Deco vibe. Self check-in is cool. Nice coffee shop in the lobby. Lots of fun stuff to explore in miyashita park.
Mari: A beautifully designed hotel unlike anything I’ve ever seen. A unique take on a canopy bed, the ombré fabric makes you feel like you’re in a cloud. The record player is a perfect touch.
Mari: Classic Andaz service and quality. I don’t love the design of the rooms though. Felt a bit dated even though it’s a relatively new hotel. Great views.
Mari: A hotel based on color blocking. Small rooms that make good use of space. Not a lot of light. Better for Instagram photos than a long stay Cute cafe.
Mari: Beautifully designed hotel floating on a rice field. Fun design, spring for a Family Room Bc the others are small. Not much within walking distance.
