Miko’s favorite grandmother Jessie Branch always made time to indulge Miko about her hair. Jessie made sure to get Miko’s hair washed, conditioned, braided or blow-dried straight during her visits w/ her in Poughkeepsie, NY. When Miko had to go back home to Queens, she found herself experimenting w/ lots of grease, water & Dippity Do gel. Fascinated w/ hair, Miko’s classmate allowed Miko to cut her ponytail off w/ a paper scissor. The next day, the little girl’s mother came to school furious about her daughter’s new “do”, remembers Miko. Continuing her love of hair, Miko perfected her young craft. Eventually, all family & friends received their first Relaxers & haircuts from Miko. “Growing up, I was always the go to gal for hair & beauty”, she chuckles. This whole journey has brought forth certain discoveries. Although Miko’s focus was mainly BLACK CURLY HAIR, what was learned through Miss Jessie’s Salon & Miss Jessie’s Products was that, it’s no longer about BLACK CURLY HAIR. Its about CURLY HAIR. Texture is something that unites us together w/ a common set of issues. Its more about texture & less about race. How wonderful is that?! Miko & her sister Titi continue to share a passion for Curls, Kinks & Waves. They work together in the salon & continue to bring out products for the curly haired market. Together, their product line & salon are viewed as one of the market leaders in the curly hair category. Shingling™ is a styling method developed & created at Miss Jessie’s salon to manually "turn kinks to curls", you can achieve maximum curl definition & elongation if you capture your hair in the wet stage. Apply Miss Jessie’s CURLY PUDDING™ or Miss Jessie’s curly meringue™ & use a comb to spread product from root to end smoothing & stretching hair in a south bound direction. We call it Shingling because it looks like flat shingles in a brick-layered pattern. This styling method is excellent for naturally kinky textures. What is a "no chemical Silkener™"? A no-chem Silkener is a nick name for our Shingling™ method. How long does the Shingling™ process take? From shampoo to the last shingle™ it can range from 1/2 hour & up depending on length, density & dryer time. What do I do at night when my hair is Shingled™? You can wear a satin cap. If you have major shrinkage tie a satin scarf loosely on your head to keep hair in a south bound direction.
