The rice is seasoned perfectly and the fish, hand-selected by Nozawa, might be as good could be at this price point. With many locations, it's L.A.'s patented sushi concept with remarkable quality.
The downtown Sugarfish is a small, intimatesushi place perfect for dates and small groups. They don't take reservations or seat incomplete parties, but the wait is worth it. Order the Trust Me!
OMG, the tuna sushi and sashimi here can be compared to the ones at Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. Seriously. Try the albacoresushi while you're at it. Also, I can recommend the 'Trust Me' menu
Trust Me Lite + Uni = Best and most satisfying meal ever. I could eat here every day. Always good and consistent experience. Takeout is available but not recommended - it doesn’t do the meal justice!
Large scallops & salmon sushi are my favorites, with the blue crab hand roll coming in a close second. If you're hungry & it's a good daily special, then "The Nozawa" is usually the better deal.
Simple menu to navigate. Sushi, rolls and sashimi are pretty much all there is. Excellent quality, housemadeponzu and soy, rice melts in your mouth. No dessert. The wait is about 45-60 mins.
It wounds my soul to watch people soak their sushi in soy sauce here. Seriously, you don't need it. The fish is so flavorful and fresh, it's a crime to cover it up.
By far thee best first experience at sushi. Love the ambience definitely perfect for a date. The lights are dim and it's more or an intimate setting. Service is just wonderfu
Old school Japanese stylesushi. Crispyseaweed, warm rice and fresh fish make perfect hand rolls. Set menus are nicely paced and bring satisfaction to the taste buds.
Don’t expect rolls here dripping with sauce, the menu is simple and elegant and the quality of the fish can’t be beat. Get the “trust me” and you won’t regret it.
This is hands-down the best sushi I have ever had. Munch down the hand rolls as soon as you get them, the yellowtail is ORGASMIC and I'm actually convinced there isn't a bad dish on the menu.
Wins for best sushi downtown. Don't come here for fancy rolls, just great quality fish. The rice is perfectly warmed, the fish very fresh. Go for the "trust me" and remember most don't need soy sauce!
The Nozawa selection was awesome. The Chef's Special was the scallops. No need to soy sauce at any point. Simple is better! I preferred sushi over hand rolls.
Sometimes I don't feel like the rolls and I just want the great sushi and rice--although it's no longer on the menu, you can still order the Trust Me "no roll" and it's all sushi #downtownla #sushi
The "Trust Me" sushi / sashimi combo is just perfect. Fish is incredibly fresh and melt in your mouth tender. And the rice - that beautiful, warm, fluffy, loosely packed rice.
Unlike most sushi spots, there are no chefs in sight. Put your trust in chef Nozawa’s simplified menu of top-quality fish, consistently fresh across all eight local outposts.
You might think it’s overrated because so many celebrities have recommended it, but it’s not. They have three tasting menus to choose from, and all of them will impress. No need to dress up too much.
Honestly, the unagi was the best. The tuna sashimi second. Their policy of no outside food is super strict. Wouldn't let us celebrate a birthday with a tiny cake and the restaurant wasn't even busy.
the hype is real. your 'trust' will not be betrayed. the seaweed is crisp the tuna is fatty the salmon's like butter and the sake punches like tequila. #yum
When you order any of the hand rolls, be sure to eat right away so that you can experience some of the crispiest nori you've ever had. Wait too long and the nori gets a little more chewier.
This downtown location always seems to struggle compared to the others, but the fish was just as good, and let's be real, nobody is going to Sugarfish for their customer service
