Max cafe is way shittier food than I remember + they don't have bacon & there's no such thing as a refill on coffee. At least they have wifi & you can hide away in the corner forever.
If you haven't tried the French Dip, you are really missing out. If you're vegetarian, the Guacamole & Hummus Sandwich is the tastiestiest combo of vegetarian fun between two awesome slices of bread.
With brick walls and a tin ceiling, this spot is a comfortably homey atmosphere for lunch, excellent coffee and pastries.
After you place your order, walk through the red door in the back for the spacious garden. A great summertime place for breakfast and a book.

This instantly became one of my favorite new NYC cafés! Counter Culture coffee done right, interesting and delicious pastries, beautiful space, and a really sweet staff. Vietnamese IC = EVERYTHING!
If you can snag a table on the balcony, do it. Just walk up one of the staircases.
