Nice Place with helpful staff. They lock the door after 10pm so be sure you got the entrance code
Try to go as much as early otherwise you can not take pictures because of crowd. Instead of bus, use train from Kyoto Station, much faster...
Check online before visiting. They have a “monthly regular closing schedule” otherwise you only can take pictures from outside

Golden pavilion is perfect 👍🏼 Take Express bus from Kyoto Station and make a 30-40 min stop in nijoji Castle, and continue to Kinkakuji. Be avare Temple will be closed at 5pm
Try to come weekday early morning (6am) to find better-empty photo options. But shops starts after 9-10am.
