Newly reopened with thematic exhibits, the curators are creating a new, inclusive national narrative with historical context. Great mix of theory, history, art and artifact. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely outdoor (or indoor) setting in the warm sun. Family owned. Good menu, including a number of Ecuadorian dishes. Very high quality food and cleanliness.
While they don't have many English guides, it's worth it to wait for one and get a tour. There's so much history and stories. If an English guide is giving a tour, feel free to ask to join.

Regular haunt for street performers. Locals come to watch pouting clowns and amateur magicians. Beautiful in the evening, when the domes of the nearby church are floodlit.
The tower is worth to climb for a great view of Quito. The stairs are a bit scary but very safe.

Jurgen has a great place for breakfast in Quito. The food is excellent (the croissants are to die for) and the service is nice. The place can get crowded, so either go early, or late in the morning.

This a great alternative to the Otavalo market which is about 2 hours away. We got all the souvenirs we needed and there was a great selection. A few vendors take credit cards, but cash is best.
Tasty! We stopped just to try the chocolate, didn't do the tour, but the hot chocolate was the tastiest, best I've had. Such a nice place.
Delicious vegetarian meals with all the dishes using or derived from quinoa. We both had the vegetarian burgers with cacao bbq sauce and they are honestly one of the best veg burgers we’ve ever had!

Scenic cobblestone alleyway that dates back to the 1600's, lined with bars and cafes. Great place to sit on a second-floor balcony and drink a canelazo.
