Lovely residential beach resort, Long Island Sound on one side, Atlantic t'other. Arrive by ferry. Stay in family, singles, or gay communities. Sadly, ticks from wild deer population = health hazard.
Russian neighborhood a short walk from Coney Island. 30 years ago it was $1 vodka shots & Russian grandmas in girdles. Now it’s swanky restaurants. B or Q train to Brighton Beach; 45-60 min ride.
Getting there: Take Long Island Railroad from Penn station or David Brothers Taxi from Manhattan (68th St. and Third Ave. or 53rd St. and Second Ave.) to Bayshore, then take ferry to Fire Island
Well manicured, relatively uncrowded beach accessible via LIRR. Nice little diners & suburban houses. Great place to get Long Island (as opposed to Brooklyn) flavor of NY summer beach. Beach fees.
